“Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him: Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s children. When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple: He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.”
Matthew 27:54-61, KJV

“In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.”
Matthew 28:1-10, KJV

“And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome; (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem. And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus. And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre. And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid. And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you. And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid. Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.”
Mark 15:39-16:11, KJV

“And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.”
Luke 8:1-3, KJV

“Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned. And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things. And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just: (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God. This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid. And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on. And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid. And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment. Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words, And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.”
Luke 23:47-24:11, KJV

“Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene . . . And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid. There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews’ preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand. The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed. For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. Then the disciples went away again unto their own home. But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.”
John 19:25, 38-20:18, KJV

The adulteress who is mentioned in the following account could not possibly have been Mary Magdalene because Mary Magdalene followed Jesus from the time that He was in Galilee. This event occurred some time later in Jerusalem:

“Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.”
John 8:1-11, KJV

In the following account, we are neither told the woman’s name, nor the specific sin(s) of which she was guilty. While this possibly could have been Mary Magdalene, there is no clear evidence of this in these verses:

“And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat. And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.”
Luke 7:36-50, KJV

The Mary who is mentioned in the following verses is clearly identified as Mary, the sister of Lazarus and Martha. Lazarus, Mary and Martha were from Bethany — not far from Jerusalem — while Mary Magdalene was from Magdala, which was located on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, about three miles south of Tiberias. Mary Magdalene and the other women who ministered unto Jesus followed Him from Galilee to Jerusalem:

“Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.) . . . Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:”
John 11:1-2, 18, KJV

“Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him. Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him, Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this. For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.”
John 12:1-8, KJV

“And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.”
Matthew 15:39, KJV

“Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more . . . Wherefore comfort [exhort] one another with these words.”
1 Thessalonians 4:1, 18, KJV

“Wherefore comfort [exhort] yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves. Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11-14, KJV

“For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.”
2 Thessalonians 3:11-13, KJV

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

EVOLUTION — KJV (King James Version) Bible Verse List

#Scriptures #BibleStudy #BibleVerses #Evolution #MacroEvolution

Note: While the following verses are not actually discussing evolution, being as the theory obviously did not exist back then, nevertheless, they could very easily be used to describe the belief in evolution today, being as the mentality is basically the same.

“This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.”
James 3:15, KJV

“O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:”
1 Timothy 6:20, KJV

“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”
2 Timothy 3:13, KJV

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
Isaiah 5:20, KJV

“Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things . . . Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.”
Romans 1:21-23, 25, KJV

“Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.”
Jeremiah 2:27, KJV

“And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.”
Jeremiah 3:9, KJV

“But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities.”
Jeremiah 10:8, KJV

THE VISION

by Bill Kochman

07-25-2012

For this world, I care not,
All it offers, is but rot.
Dust in hand, and underfoot,
Temporal ashes, smokey soot.

Don’t be fooled, by its game,
Think instead, on Jesus’ name.
Seek above, and not below,
Read His Word, faith will grow.

Look beyond, Satan’s fare,
Lift your eyes, to the air.
Be steadfast, hold on tight,
Fast approaches, coming night.

Don’t despair, we will win,
Simply keep, your eyes on Him.

NOTE: As best as I can recall, this is the very first poem I wrote when I began the poetry facet of the Bill’s Bible Basics ministry.

THE UNSPEAKABLE GIFT

by Bill Kochman

12-13-2016

No matter how hard you try,
And regardless of what you do,
You can never pay the price,
Of what Lord Jesus did for you.

You see, the ransom was beyond,
What could be paid by any man,
But therein lies the very beauty,
Because God already had a plan.

All that was actually required,
Was a love that was truly great,
And it was for that very reason,
Jesus suffered without the Gate.

THE UNMERCIFUL ONE

by Bill Kochman

12-06-2016

They call Allah the merciful one,
Yet Muslim extremists love to kill,
They cut off heads, blow up planes,
Until they’ve had their bloody fill.

Then they dance, yes, so joyfully,
Believing that Paradise them awaits,
What they so obviously do not know,
Is that God determines their fates.

Strictly judged by His Law of Love,
Those Islamists will clearly fail,
They’ll be surprised, full of shock,
As they’re sent right down to hell.

THE TWO RACES

by Bill Kochman

04-09-2014

This life is like a race, many people know,
Some folks run fast, while others run slow.
Some run for money, while others for fame,
But if the truth be told, it is Satan’s game.

There is a race which many, so fail to see,
Its prize is not earthly, but for Eternity.
So many are called, to take part in this feat,
But Satan fights hard, to bring them defeat.

My son, you will never win if you never run,
And you will never run well, without the Son.
So keep your eyes on Jesus, He knows the way,
And you will be rewarded, on that Great Day.

THE TREE

by Bill Kochman

11-29-2016

That great old tree grew big and proud,
Its highest branch could touch a cloud.
But over the years it became so corrupt,
God determined its end would be abrupt.

So then the Lord His axe He laid bare,
Leaves and branches flew through the air.
Oh sinful America, is this your plight?
Will you disappear in one single night?

Your sins angered Heaven, do not doubt,
Now the furious God has called you out.
Your time grows short, you better repent,
For if you don’t, your roots He will rent.

by Bill Kochman

We cannot please this world,
If we try to please the Lord,
Because Jesus said the truth,
Is like a sharp dividing sword.

To follow the strait and narrow,
Means we’ll lose many a friend,
But we receive a great reward,
If we persevere until the end.

Tho our journey may be lonely,
With great perils along the way,
Our sacrifices will be worth it,
On that glorious Judgment Day.

THE SACRIFICE

07-26-2014

I thought I was the greatest,
I boasted of my wonderful deeds,
But God looked in my poor garden,
And just saw a bunch of weeds.

My pride had left me blinded,
I put my works before His Grace,
Trying to deserve my Salvation,
Was really just so out of place.

But in His mercy God awoke me,
And said “Look to my dear Son,
Trust in His precious Blood only,
For you His Sacrifice was done.”

The ruling elite don’t really care,
What poor people think, say or do,
They have got their devilish plans,
And they will roll right over you.

Though we complain, gripe and balk,
And tell them it is just not fair,
They box us in and enslave our lives,
With pressures we cannot bear.

They’ve been at it for many years,
World domination is their one goal,
They bleed our last drop of blood,
Through global economic control.

THE RACE

by Bill Kochman

07-19-2013

As I run this life’s race,
Sometimes I do fall down,
But unlike that poor Jack,
I don’t ever lose my Crown.

For even though I may fall,
The Lord is there for me,
He extends His loving hand,
Saying “I will deliver thee.”

Yes, Jesus picks me right up,
Then He simply dusts me off,
While the devils throw a fit,
And curse, scream and scoff.

Now, no force on this Earth,
Or even in the heavens above,
Can ever truly separate us,
From our great Father’s love.

If at times we do grow weak,
The Lord can make us strong,
Through our trials He will lead,
Till we sing the victor’s song.

A simple rule we need to follow,
Is to keep our eyes on Him,
And if we do this every moment,
The race we are certain to win.

THE PRICE PAID

12-05-2016

Nothing is free in this life,
That includes our Salvation,
Jesus paid the price for all,
He suffered great humiliation.

Although He is God’s own Son,
He took on the form of a man,
And thus in such a loving way,
Fulfilled the Redemption Plan.

His Blood cleanses us from sin,
‘Twas the ransom He had to pay,
Now Eternal Life is for taking,
If we humble ourselves and pray.

THE PLAN

by Bill Kochman

06-03-2018

Our church is so dead, we need a plan,
So give me some new ideas, if you can.
Well, let’s talk about everything but sin,
Then some new churchgoers we will win.

Maybe if some strobe lights we can offer,
They will all come and fill up our coffer.
While we’re at it, let’s crack a few jokes,
After all, we gotta loosen up those folks.

And don’t forget musicians for the crowd,
Even hard rock music should be allowed.
But no Bible, let’s sell our books instead,
We need cash, our church is in the red.

Let’s be real liberal and marry the gays,
It’s a new century, so we need new ways.
Great ideas guys, this will all work fine,
Has your church stepped so out of line?
