Ground Yourself In God's Word, Gird Up And Strengthen Your Mind, Be Sober And Vigilant, Hunger For The Truth Of God's Word, Temporal Things Of This World, Redeem The Time, Live In God's Word, Avoid Worldliness, Reading Resources List

Continuing our discussion from part one, and to reiterate my main message, the very best way in which we can all protect ourselves against Satan's doubts and lies, and the deceptions of his ambassadors of darkness, is by reading, memorizing and grounding ourselves in God's Word on a regular basis. We need to gird up and strengthen our minds with the truth of God's Word, so that we do not become deceived by the Devil's word, or by the miracles of his false prophets. It is imperative that we do not faint in our minds, and that we all remain sober and vigilant. This is made evident by verses such as the following:

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
Romans 12:2, KJV

"For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ."
1 Corinthians 2:16, KJV

"Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;"
2 Corinthians 10:5, KJV

"But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ."
2 Corinthians 11:3, KJV

"And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;"
Ephesians 4:23, KJV

"For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds."
Hebrews 12:3, KJV

"Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;"
1 Peter 1:13, KJV

"Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober . . . But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation."
1 Thessalonians 5:6, 8, KJV

"But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer."
1 Peter 4:7, KJV

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"
1 Peter 5:8, KJV

Our hunger to know and understand God's Word, and to obey His Word, should be much greater than our desire for the temporal things of this current evil world, with which we all so often waste our time. Worldly enticements do not, and will never, truly satisfy us. They are passing amusements; nothing more. Consider the following verses which confirm this truth:

"And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away."
1 Corinthians 7:31, KJV

"While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal."
2 Corinthians 4:18, KJV

"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."
Colossians 3:1-2, KJV

"But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content."
1 Timothy 6:6-8, KJV

As the Apostle Paul admonishes us, we must redeem the time. In other words, we must not foolishly waste our time. We all must endeavor to use our time wisely for God's glory, and for our own spiritual benefit and edification as well. Consider the following verse:

"Redeeming the time, because the days are evil."
Ephesians 5:16, KJV

Of course, this includes investing serious time in studying God's Word. The prominence that God's Word should take in our personal lives, and the desire and hunger that we should have for it, is clearly revealed to us in such Bible verses as the following:

"Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food."
Job 23:12, KJV

"O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him."
Psalm 34:8, KJV

"But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."
Matthew 4:4, KJV

"More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb."
Psalm 19:10, KJV

"I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it."
Psalm 81:10, KJV

"For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost."
Romans 14:17, KJV

In contrast, as I stated a moment ago, we should not desire the things of this world; not only because they do not truly satisfy, but also because the Scriptures clearly inform us that we are not of this world anyway. That being the case, we should endeavor to limit our interactions with it as much as possible. Consider the following group of verses:

"If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you."
John 15:19, KJV

"I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil."
John 17:14-15, KJV

"Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,"
2 Corinthians 6:17, KJV

"No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier."
2 Timothy 2:4, KJV

"These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city."
Hebrews 11:13-16, KJV

"Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God."
James 4:4, KJV

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."
1 John 2:15-16, KJV

In conclusion, if you want to chase away the Devil's doubts and lies, then simply hunger for, dwell in, and diligently study God's Word. Let the light in, and the darkness will flee of itself. Make God's Word a part of your very being by committing portions of it to memory if you can. After all, as we have seen, it is spiritual food for our souls. None of us can remain spiritually strong without it, any more than we can go many days without eating, and still be physically strong.
