The Word "Planets" Is Found In The Old Testament, Ancient Israelites Backslid And Worshipped Heavenly Bodies, Proof In 2 Kings 23:4-5, Sometimes We Need To Dig Deeper Into The Scriptures, Some Staunch Flat Earth Adherents Will Never Be Convinced Despite The Evidence, My Encounter With A Hostile Flat Earther, False Claim That The Devil Inserted The Word "Planets" In The Bible, Some Flat Earthers Dismiss Biblical Evidence Which Contradicts Their Beliefs, Harsh Accusations Against Me, Understanding Comes With A Willingness To Know The Truth, God's Word Will Accomplish Its Purposes, Logical To Conclude That Other Planets Exist, Suggested Reading List
Continuing our discussion from part one, while I have shared with you the verse that is found in the Epistle of Jude, it will interest you to know that there is another verse found in the Old Testament where we do find the word "planets" actually being used in the English text. Sadly, as I point out in other articles, such as in the series called "The Fruits of Disobedience", and also in "Our Pagan World: The Easter Myth Exposed", the ancient Israelites had a habit of constantly backsliding from the Lord. Often when they would do that, they would turn to worshipping the Sun, Moon, stars and planets, which obviously really angered the Lord. Here then is a group of verses which clearly demonstrates their rebellion against the Lord, in which the actual word "planets" is used:
"And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Bethel. And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, TO THE SUN, AND TO THE MOON, AND TO THE PLANETS, AND TO ALL THE HOST OF HEAVEN."
2 Kings 23:4-5, KJV
So again, planets are indeed mentioned in the Bible, if we know how to dig deeper. As we have seen, sometimes we have to look beyond what is on the surface in the black and white text. We need to be willing to do some pick and shovel work in order to arrive at the full truth sometimes. For those of you who may continue to doubt what I have written here, you can easily confirm the previous information for yourself by conducting a simple Google search. That is, if you do not trust the Bible. But as for me, this mystery of whether or not planets are mentioned in the Scriptures is solved.
Sadly, even the information I have presented in this article will not be enough to convince some people to abandon their misguided Flat Earth Theory, or their belief that no planets exist other than the Earth. The reason why I know this to be true, is because I shared this same information with someone who embraces these ideas. To say the least, their responses left me absolutely shocked. First of all, they informed me that they will never ever return to believing that the Earth is a sphere. They were very adamant about this point.
When I shared with them information regarding other planets being mentioned several times in the Bible, they responded that said information was purposely placed in the Bible by the Devil himself in order to confuse people. The impression I got from this person was that if there is anything in the Bible which appears to contradict the Flat Earth Theory, or which proves the existence of other planets, they will use this same excuse and say that such information was added by Satan. In other words, such people will simply dismiss any Biblical evidence which contradicts what they have chosen to believe. As I told the person in question, that is one very slippery slope, yet that is exactly what they did.
So I asked this person what criteria they use to determine what is divinely inspired text in the Bible, and what is spurious text placed there by the Devil. Rather than respond to my inquiry, they chose to delete our entire conversation, along with all of the Flat Earth Theory graphics they had uploaded to the server. As if that was not enough, they also deleted their account on the server and angrily stomped off.
But that is not all. This person became very hostile with me and condemned me with some very harsh words. As I said at the beginning of this article, they accused me of worshipping the Devil because I believe that the Earth is spherical in shape. They likewise called me a child of the Devil, a deceiver and a liar, and they accused my friends of being children of the Devil as well. I just couldn't believe their vicious reaction to my pointing out the fallacy of their beliefs.
If there is one thing which I have learned over the many years that I have been preaching the Gospel, it is that no matter how much you talk to someone, and no matter how many Bible verses you share with them, unless they have an open mind and heart to receive the truth, you are just wasting your time. You can talk to such a person until you are blue in the face, and it still will not make a bit of difference. They still won't understand, and they still won't even see what you are trying to show them, until there is first some level of willingness on their part.
In the case of the individual I just mentioned to you, that willingness simply was not there, sad to say. The best I can hope for is that perhaps I planted a seed of doubt in their heart regarding the Flat Earth Theory. Perhaps with time, their heart will soften, and the Bible verses I shared with them will begin to make sense, and they will eventually come to see the foolishness of their current beliefs. After all, as the Scriptures inform us, God's Word always accomplishes the purposes for which it was sent. Consider the following group of verses:
"For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."
Isaiah 55:10-11, KJV
"Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:"
Isaiah 46:9-10, KJV
"He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him."
Psalm 126:6, KJV
"Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days."
Ecclesiastes 11:1, KJV
On a final note, let me say the following. Even if Jude 1:13 and 2 Kings 23:4-5 were not found in the Bible, I would still believe in the existence of other planets; not only within our immediate Solar System, but outside of it as well. I am of course referring to exoplanets, or extrasolar planets. Do you know why I believe it? Well, besides the fact that there is a preponderance of images and videos to prove that other planets exist, there is also human logic.
In other words, in my view, it stands to reason that if our Sun is host to eight planets, an asteroid belt, the Kuiper Belt, etc., then it is logical to assume that other stars -- which are likewise suns -- must also host planetary systems of their own. What God did here, He could very easily have done elsewhere as well. This is in fact one of the points I make in the series entitled "Alien Life, Extrasolar Planets and Universal Atonement".
With these thoughts, I will bring this article to a close. It is my hope that you have found it informative, enlightening, and I pray that it has been a blessing in your life as well.
