God's Promise Of The Holy Spirit, Invitation To Receive Holy Spirit, Ask In Prayer Believing That Your Request Has Been Heard, Closing Remarks, BBB Articles Suggested Reading List
Continuing our discussion from part three, in this series we have spoken a lot about the Holy Spirit. Before concluding this series, let me remind you that Jesus promised to send the Comforter -- that is, the Holy Spirit -- to those who believe. This precious promise remains true today, just as it was true when it was first made two thousand years ago. God's very own Holy Spirit can indeed dwell in our beings. It is in fact through the assistance of the Holy Ghost that we can not only much better understand God's Word -- because it acts as a teacher -- but through the power of the Spirit we also receive the anointing and the boldness to proclaim the Words of Truth to a spiritually destitute world. Allow me share a few verses with you:
"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you."
John 14:16-17, KJV
"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
John 14:26, KJV
"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:"
John 15:26, KJV
"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."
John 16:13, KJV
"And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
Acts 1:4-8, KJV
As I said, this is not just a promise of the past as certain rigid religionists like to claim. God's promises are just as much for us today as they were for the Disciples of centuries ago. God's Spirit is alive and moving. So if your spiritual life is seeming kind of dry, if you feel like you have lost the fire that you once possessed, and if there is a desire in your heart to share the Word of God with others, but you just can't seem to muster up the will and the courage to really do it, perhaps it is because you are lacking that Power that God so desires to give you. Have you ever been baptized with God's Holy Spirit? If you are not sure, it is yours for the asking. For as Jesus clearly said in the Gospel of Luke:
"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"
Luke 11:13, KJV
It's as simple as that. You don't need to belong to a church or religious organization to do it. You don't even need to be dunked in water. All you have to do is ask in faith, and believe that you have been granted your petition. It is an action of faith. Consider the following group of verses:
"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:"
Matthew 7:7, KJV
"And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."
Matthew 21:22, KJV
"And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him."
1 John 5:14-15, KJV
To effectively preach the Gospel, we need the spiritual help that God offers to us. So please, if you're not certain that you have this precious gift, or if you haven't yet asked for the anointing of the Holy Spirit, please do so today. Trust me when I say that God won't let you down. He promised. Once you do, I guarantee you that the holy hounds of Heaven will be on your tail to faithfully preach the Gospel!
