Continuing our discussion from part one, it is now time to address the question which motivated me to write this article. So exactly what is the future of same-sex "marriage" in the United States of America? There is a saying which says "Never say "never". However, my view is this. While the U.S. Supreme Court was able to finally overturn Roe v. Wade after being on the books for just under fifty years, I am not convinced that the conservative Supreme Court justices will meet with the same level of success with regards to the same-sex "marriage" issue. In fact, I even hesitate to use the word "success", because while the justices moved the abortion debate back to the State level, they did not really destroy abortion as a whole.
As I point out in my article entitled "Murdering Millions by Mail: The Abortion Controversy", abortions do in fact still secretly continue at a fast clip by way of abortion pills being shipped via the U.S. postal system, as well as by way of private, online consultations. So, in addition to moving the abortion issue back to the States, by overturning Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court justices also removed the public stigma and humiliation that is associated with having to go to an abortion clinic. As that verse in the Book of Daniel says, "the wicked shall do wickedly". They always find a way to do their wicked deeds.
Even if conservatives maintain the majority on the Supreme Court, and even if they do decide to tackle the Obergefell v. Hodges decision, if Roe v. Wade is any indication, trying to overturn same-sex "marriage" is NOT going to be an easy task. It could take many years to accomplish, just as it took some fifty years to defeat Roe v. Wade. In fact, it is going to be even more difficult, because thanks to liberal Democrats, and a number of compromising Republicans, the hands of the justices were intentionally tied in 2022, when Congress passed the hypocritical Respect for Marriage Act, which was signed into law by President Joe Biden on December 13, 2022.
As you may know, the Respect for Marriage Act mandates that the federal government recognizes same-sex "marriages". But that is not all that it does. It also officially erased the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, which was signed into law by then President Bill Clinton. The 1996 DOMA formally defined marriage as being between a man and a woman only, which as we Christians know, is the natural order which was ordained by God Himself. That is why I referred to the Respect for Marriage Act as being hypocritical. It does not respect in any way, the institution of marriage, as defined by God in the Book of Genesis, and confirmed by Jesus in the Gospels. It in fact directly opposes and contradicts God's Word. Consider the following group of verses:
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."
Genesis 1:27-28, KJV
"And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."
Genesis 2:23-24, KJV
"Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD."
Proverbs 18:22, KJV
"And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder."
Matthew 19:4-6, KJV
"But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder."
Mark 10:6-9, KJV
"What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh."
1 Corinthians 6:16, KJV
"Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband."
1 Corinthians 7:1-2, 10-16, KJV
"For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh."
Ephesians 5:31, KJV
So as I point out in my series called "When Sin is No Longer a Sin", with the stroke of a pen, arrogant human beings are nullifying God's perfect Laws, and replacing them with their own wicked laws.
The Respect for Marriage Act is not the only thing which is complicating the ability of the Supreme Court to overturn same-sex "marriage" and the Obergefell v. Hodges decision. As we discussed earlier, at this present time, there are probably more than one million "legal" same-sex "marriages" in the United States. If it were possible for the court to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, what would happen to those one million same-sex couples? What would their status be? If the justices were to say "Okay, their marriages will still be recognized because it is a done deed, but no more people of the same gender can marry", imagine the uproar that would immediately cause, not to mention the ensuing confusion. So the longer this goes on, and the more time that passes, the more complicated the issue becomes.
What we also need to remember is that it is not the business of the U.S. Supreme Court to make new laws. Their job is to interpret the bills which are passed by the U.S. Congress and then signed into law by the president. And that takes us right back to the Respect for Marriage Act, which was signed into law by Joe Biden. That law tells the justices, "Stop! You can go no further!" as far as the federal government's recognition of same-sex "marriages" is concerned.
Because the Respect for Marriage Act destroyed DOMA, the justices would have to somehow find a way to prove that the Respect for Marriage Act is unconstitutional, in order to restore heterosexual marriages as the only recognized form of marriage in the United States. Again, this is a really messy situation from a legal perspective.
As I also previously pointed out, the sad fact is that those of us who are of the conservative persuasion are slowly being outnumbered by the liberal Democrats. Furthermore, as we saw earlier, we have upcoming generations who are liberal-minded, and who embrace values which the older generation would never consider. Some of these young people will no doubt eventually aspire to political careers, and may become members of the US Congress at some point. Thus, over time, Congress will become even more liberal than it already is.
So as I hope you can now see, there are quite a few different forces and factors which are already working hard against any U.S. Supreme Court justice who might want to try to overturn same-sex "marriage". Quite frankly, given all the information which I have shared with you in this article, as much as I do not like to admit it, I am forced to conclude that same-sex "marriage" is on solid footing in the United States, and it is here to stay for the foreseeable future. I do not see it being overturned during my lifetime, sad to say.
Honestly speaking, the ONLY thing which I currently see which might hasten its demise, would be direct and powerful Divine Chastisement from the Lord. This is in fact a subject which I discuss in my 2016 three-part series entitled "Don't Ever Underestimate Our Spiritual Enemy". As I state in that series, judgment delayed does not equate to judgment postponed. I do believe that unless there is a massive, heartfelt, national repentance in the United States of America, we have nothing to look forward to but the wrath of God at some point.
With these thoughts, I will bring this article to a close. It is my hope that you have found it informative, enlightening, and I pray that it has been a blessing in your life as well.
