The following is an actual letter which I wrote for a teacher in our local school system quite a few years ago in late 1997 when my child was still attending the public school system. I am making it available online for those Christian parents who would like to express their own concerns to their child's teacher, but who may not know what to say, or who may feel that they are somewhat lacking in their writing skills.

The original letter has been revised so that you the parent can do some simple editing on your computer, and fill in the appropriate information for the particular situation in which you find yourself. Please make sure that you also change all of the son/daughter, his/her, and him/her phrases where necessary.

Before submitting such a letter to your school, I strongly advise you to pray and to count the cost first in order to make certain that both you and your child have the faith and the spiritual perseverance to endure whatever might come your way as a result of making such an assault on the Devil's territory, and the public school system is most definitely Satan's territory. This is very Scriptural advice; for as Jesus said in the Gospel of Luke:

"For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace."


It is also important that you sit down with your child or children first and discuss this letter with them. While we all want to protect our children as much as possible from the ungodly influences of the public school environment, we must also realize that, in the end, they are the ones who will feel the brunt of the effect of the actions we take to protect their rights and Christian heritage. They are the ones who will have to deal with peer pressure, possible ridicule, or other actions which may be taken against them by non-believing children, and quite possibly even by some adults at their school as well.

Sadly, according to some online comments and other sources I have read, this persecution of our own Christian children can even originate with their immediate teacher(s). While it may be difficult to believe, some non-believing, liberal school teachers and college professors can become quite mean and vicious when they discover that one of their students embraces the Christian faith. They will not hesitate to publicly ridicule, bully, humiliate and challenge a student before their peers. I find this to be quite a disgrace, not to mention totally unprofessional behavior by a member of academia. Is it any wonder that university life turns out so many atheists and liberals nowadays? They are the Devil's breeding ground for such people.

But regarding the letter below, in my case, I allowed my child to read the letter first to make sure that we were in perfect agreement regarding its contents, as well as about submitting it to the school. To reiterate, if your child doesn't have the faith for it, or the spiritual strength and maturity to confront any challenges which may come their way, or if he or she demonstrates the least amount of doubt or hesitation, then perhaps you shouldn't submit the following letter, or a revised version thereof. As the Apostle Paul wrote:

". . . for whatsoever is not of faith is sin."


While it is true that we want to teach our children to stand up for their Christian faith on their own, at the same time, as responsible parents, we also need to exercise a degree of Wisdom and Spiritual Discernment regarding this matter. In other words, we don't want to push our kids too hard or too fast, so that we do more harm than good. As I explain in the article entitled "He Who Fights and Runs Away: Choose Your Battles Wisely", sometimes there may be times when it is actually wiser to avoid a particular battle, than to run headlong into it.

While Paul was discussing dietary habits in that particular group of verses, I believe that the overall lesson regarding faith can be applies to other areas of our lives as well. In other words, anything that we do that is not done in faith -- whether it is eating or something else -- is sin.

Prior to filling out this letter, you may wish to read my companion article entitled "The Public School System and School Prayer". If you have the faith for it, you may even wish to print out the aforementioned article and give a copy of it to the teacher in question. However be forewarned that the aforementioned article is strongly worded, and they may find it offensive, if they even choose to read it at all.

Dear _________________________,

Today my son/daughter informed me that he/she is supposed to read the ________________ chapter of her science book called _________________________. While he/she was reading it, I went over to see exactly what the chapter was about. I was quite disappointed to discover that you are teaching my son/daughter things which are clearly against our Christian beliefs. Perhaps you may not be aware of it, so please allow me to inform you that we are fundamentalist Christians. This means that we accept the Bible as the inspired Word of God.

This includes the account of Creation which is found in the Book of Genesis. We believe that God created the Earth, Sun, Moon and stars in six literal days. In short, we believe in what is today sometimes referred to as "Intelligent Design". We do not believe that the Universe came into existence by some mere cosmic accident, or "Big Bang". We believe in cause and effect. In this case, we believe and accept that God was the cause behind the creation of the Universe. A watch cannot make itself. Neither did the Universe. God made all things, as becomes evident by a literal plethora of Bible verses, such as the following:

"All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."


"The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil."


"And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:"


"God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands . . . For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring."


"For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen."


"But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him."


"And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:"


"For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist."


"God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;"


"For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings."


"For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God."


"Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear."


"For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:"


"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."


"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth . . . And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good."


"When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;"


"Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars. Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea. Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south."


"To him that by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever: The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever: The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever."


"He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names."


"Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights. Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light. Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created."


"Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:"


"Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;"


"Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:"


"Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:"


"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:"


The reason why we choose to believe these things is because God says so in His Holy Word -- the Bible -- and that is all that we need to know. As far as we are concerned, God's Word stands above all of the doctrines, teachings, philosophies, theories, etc., of men. It takes precedence above all. The Bible informs us that God has esteemed, or magnified, His Word above His very name, as is made clear in the following verse:

"I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name."


With that in mind, please allow me to briefly share with you some of our positions concerning certain modern beliefs and practices as they relate to the Bible:

EVOLUTION AND DINOSAUR AGE:

Because of our strict adherence to the Word of God, we wholeheartedly reject some of the things which are being taught by science teachers and the modern public education system. This includes the false, very misguided theory of evolution, and everything that is associated with it. This obviously includes the millions-of-years scenario, the idea that humankind evolved from apes and other lower life forms, the pre-human dinosaur age, etc. In the Bible, the Apostle Paul refers to such knowledge and teachings as "science falsely so called" because it is not the wisdom which comes from God. Rather, such things are the foolish babblings of vain, proud, rebellious men who have rejected God and His Holy Word. Consider this verse:

"O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:"


In speaking on another issue, the Apostle James made the following comment which can also be applied to the teaching of evolution and other false ideas, concepts and theories which are taught in our modern public school system:

"This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish."


Following are a few more verses for your consideration regarding deception, and switching the truth for lies:

"But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived."


"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"


We find an interesting parallel to the belief in evolution, and the literal worship of skeletons of dinosaurs, etc., in the ancient Roman idolatrous worship of images and statues of birds and four-footed beasts -- which they worshipped as gods -- as we see by these verses:

"Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things . . . Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen."


Approximately seven hundred years before this time, a young Prophet Jeremiah also chided ancient Israel for worshipping things taken from nature, as we can determine by the following verses:

"Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us."


"And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks."


"But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities."


As can easily be seen by the previous verses, this idea of worshipping creation, or nature, is something which has been going on for literally thousands of years; and it continues today, albeit in more subtle forms such as modern science, evolution, Wicca, nature-worshipping New Age belief systems, etc. Because of our Bible-based beliefs, I must insist that you immediately desist from polluting my son's/daughter's mind with these misguided ideas of modern science. You may not be fully aware of it, but not only are you confusing my son/daughter, but you are likewise indirectly calling God a liar, and His Word a lie by teaching these things which are in direct contradiction to the Bible. Please consider these verses:

"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"


"God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged."


"In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;"


BALANCED TEACHING:

If you are not prepared to also teach your students the story of Creation as found in the Holy Scriptures, then you are in fact unfairly educating them, because you are only giving them man's version of the truth and not God's version of the truth. How can we expect our children to become critical thinkers if they are not given both sides of the story? This is a false balance of which the Lord does not approve, as we see by the following verses:

"A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight."


"Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good."


By teaching such things as evolution in your classroom, you are placing a stumbling block, and a rock of offence, in the way of the children, thus causing them to become confused, and to fall away from the truth which is found in the Word of God. Please note that this is a very issue with the Lord, as we see by the following verses:

"And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!"


"Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way."


In the previous Scriptures, the two words "offences" and "stumblingblock" are derived from two different Greek words -- "skandalon" and "proskomma" -- which share the common meaning of being a stumbling block or offence; that is, something which causes one to stumble and fall away from the truth. This is exactly what you are doing when you teach such things as evolution. Such teachings cause children to doubt God's Holy Word, the Bible. As Jesus states in the Gospel of Matthew above, they that cause such things are going to have a heavy price to pay; especially if they know they are doing it.

SANTA CLAUS AND EASTER BUNNY:

We totally reject the concepts of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. They are lies and cheap substitutes for the truth which is found in God's Word. According to Roman Catholic tradition, Christmas is supposed to be the day in which the world commemorates the Birth of our Savior; just as Easter is supposed to be the day that the world celebrates His miraculous Resurrection from the dead. As many sincere, Bible-believing Christians already know, while Christ's Birth and Resurrection are indeed fundamental elements of our Faith, the actual dates of these events were lost to history long ago. As such, any proposed dates are mere speculation at best.

However, one thing which is made perfectly clear in the Scriptures, is that Jesus could not possibly have been born in the middle of dead cold Winter near the end of December. This becomes evident when we consider that the Gospel writer Luke informs us that the shepherds were out in the fields that night letting their flocks graze. As such, it becomes obvious that Jesus must have born at some point earlier in the year when it was still relatively warm, because Jewish shepherds did not graze their flocks in the middle of Winter when there was nothing to eat on the ground. Again, consider these two verses:

"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night . . . And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us."


Furthermore, there is no indication in the Bible that the First Century Apostles and Disciples celebrated any kind of Christmas. While the early Christians did commemorate Jesus' Death and Resurrection from the dead, it most certainly did not involve an Easter bunny. As I point out in my articles entitled "Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas?" and "Our Pagan World: The Easter Myth Exposed!", the holidays which many people worldwide celebrate today are based upon two ancient pagan festivals which were "Christianized" by the early Roman Catholic "church fathers" who compromised with Fourth Century Rome, in order to extend their sphere of influence over the pagan Roman masses.

More to the point, the Christmas holiday is based upon a hedonistic Roman festival of the winter solstice -- that is, the worship of the Sun -- which was called Saturnalia. This is a verifiable historical fact. During this time, people became very drunk, raucous, and engaged in lewd behavior. Regarding Easter, it is based upon a festival of the worship of the ancient goddess Ashtoreth, who was likewise known as Astarte or Ishtar and by a variety of other names throughout the Middle East and southern Europe. She was the wife of the pagan god Baal. Even the name of this false goddess -- that is, Ishtar -- is very similar-sounding to our word "Easter".

Because of these distortions of the truth, I must again insist that you do not ask or force my son/daughter to sing songs about, or to color pictures of Santa Claus, Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, the Easter Bunny, or other such silliness that is related to these two occasions. By doing so, you are going against my wishes, confusing my child concerning his/her Christian heritage, and I believe, even offending the God in whom we believe. Thank you.

HALLOWEEN:

As I explain in my article entitled "Halloween and Samhain: No Room for Compromise!" -- which, along with the other two articles, you can read online on my website -- we do not celebrate Halloween, because it is another holiday that is rooted in ancient pagan practices, and which only glorifies the works of darkness and Satan. The Bible very explicitly warns us Christians to flee from the works of darkness, as we can determine by the following sample verses:

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."


"Neither give place to the devil."


"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved."


"The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light."


"For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light . . . And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them."


"Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:"


"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:"


"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"


As such, because of these very clear admonitions which are found in God's Word, please do not expect my son/daughter to come to school dressed as a witch or goblin on that day. I may even opt for keeping him/her home on that particular day in order to avoid any level of discomfort with the other children who may arrive at the school dressed in a costume.

CANDY AND SWEETS:

As much as is possible, I do not want anyone -- be they teacher or school friend -- giving candy to my son/daughter at any time during the school year. Eating such things during school hours when he/she cannot even brush his/her teeth, or at the very least rinse out his/her mouth, can easily cause cavities. If we truly love our children, we will all do what we can to limit their intake of sweets. Not only that, but if my son/daughter does develop cavities as a result of eating candy and sweets that he/she is given at school, as his/her parent, I am the one who has the responsibility of taking him/her to the dentist's office -- and also paying the expensive bill -- and not the school. Thank you for your understanding and consideration.

HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS:

As you know, in June of 2015, the United States Supreme Court legalized same-sex "marriage" across the nation. While this may now be the law of land, as I explained earlier in this same letter, we firmly believe that God's Word -- and thus, God's Laws -- take precedence over all human laws. As such, we remain convinced that heterosexual relationships are the only kind of sexual relationships which are ordained, as well as blessed, by God. That being the case, I must firmly ask you to not allow my child, at any time, to read materials, or view any materials, which support or promote gay or lesbian relationships. Children that age are too young to understand such matters anyway; and in my view, that kind of education has absolutely no place in an elementary school.

CONCLUSION:

Now that you are aware of these things, I trust that you will respect my son's/daughter's beliefs by giving him/her other things to do or to read which are not related to any of the areas I have mentioned above. I appreciate your compliance regarding these issues, and I truly hope that we can work together concerning them, for my child's benefit. As you can see, this is a very to-the-point letter. For some of you, it may even be too direct. If that is the case, and there are certain things you do not wish to communicate to your child's teacher, then simply edit them out. Remember; whatever you do or say, it must be according to your, and your child's faith, and not according to mine. I am merely providing the above letter as an example for you to use or follow. I trust it will be a blessing to you and to many other concerned Christian parents worldwide. Let me leave you with a final verse:

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
